Bruce Mandelbaum L.Ac., LMT
As the acupuncturist for the Olympic Development Committee of the Central park Track Club I get to treat elite athletes every day. I treat their injuries with both trigger point acupuncture and deep tissue sports massage. The two together can help most tendinitis and muscular injuries fast and efficiently to get you back to your running, cycling, swimming, tennis, golf or whatever other sports you might partake in as quickly as possible.
SHC created a unique blend of Eastern and Western approaches to orthopedic and internal medicine. By integrating multiple healing techniques, SHC, is one of the first holistic medical facilities in Fairfield County. Acupuncture helps rehabilitate post-operative injuries, sports injuries and improve athletic performance by increasing range of motion, muscle strength and tissue healing potential. An advantage of acupuncture is that the incidence of adverse side effects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other medical procedures used for the same conditions. Results are greatly enhanced when sports acupuncture is applied prior to exercise.
Acupuncture has a very successful record with sports injuries. Many professional sports teams have acupuncturists on staff to decrease healing times and resolve stubborn ailments. Specific acupuncture styles and techniques were developed to stop pain and dramatically increase recovery time recognized by the National Institute of Health as an acceptable form of treatment for reducing inflammation and pain. Most common athletic injuries are for muscle contusions and tendinitis, as well as overuse injuries involving the lower back, shoulder, knee and ankle, all examples of common sports injury areas. Acupuncture and sports medicine techniques focus on proprioception, the muscles' awareness of communicating to the central nervous system. Acupuncture is one of the quickest ways to restore muscle balance by using specific sites, the muscle spindles are reset, and then that balance is reawakened.
These are some of the injuries I treat regularly:
• Plantar Fasciitis
• Achilles Tendinitis
• Hamstring and Quad Injuries
• Calf Injuries
• Piriformis Syndrome
• Patellar Tendinitis
• ITB Syndrome
• Groin Muscle Injuries
• Tennis Elbow
• Shin Splints
• Rotator Cuff Injuries
• Back and Neck Pain
"I've been susceptible to chronic hamstring injuries throughout my college track career. Since undergoing Bruce's acupuncture I've had my fastest recovery from a hamstring strain ever! I was back to running in a matter of weeks. What was reassuring was that Bruce really took the time to consult with me and find out the nature of my injury before diving right in, so to speak. Bruce's treatments are absolutely something I would recommend to my teammates or anyone who has suffered an injury and looking for a swift recovery."
